4G vs 5G proxies: is 5G worth it?

5G is faster on paper. For a proxy, what matters is what your task needs: throughput, latency, coverage, or simply a carrier IP. Here is how the two compare.

Quick answer

Is a 5G proxy worth it compared with a 4G proxy?

Only if you move a lot of data. A 5G proxy is faster in good coverage, but its IP is the same kind of shared carrier address as a 4G proxy's, so sites trust both alike. For account work, ad checks and app tests, 4G LTE is enough; for video, large downloads or many parallel sessions, 5G helps. At CellMast, a port costs the same on 4G or 5G, from $2.63/day, with no KYC and payment in crypto.

LatencyFine for interactive useCan be lower, mostly on 5G standalone; the proxy hop still adds time
CoverageNearly everywhere a carrier operatesCities first; patchy outside them in many countries

Does 5G make a mobile proxy harder to block?

No. What makes mobile IPs hard to block is carrier-grade NAT: many subscribers share each public address, so a ban hurts real customers. That is true on 4G and on 5G, because both use the same carrier address pools. The radio generation is invisible in the IP address. See the CGNAT guide.

How much faster is 5G in 2026?

It depends on the carrier and on coverage. In Ookla's US report for the first half of 2026, T-Mobile's median 5G download speed was 314.38 Mbps, against 275.55 Mbps across all its technologies. In the UK, Opensignal's January 2026 report gave Three the fastest 5G download at 187 Mbps.

These are speeds of phones on the network. A proxy adds a hop through the gateway and shares the modem's link among your connections, so measure on your own target with a one-day port.

When is 4G LTE the better choice?

  • Logged-in account work: what matters is a stable IP, not speed.
  • Ad and price checks: pages are light; 4G loads them fast enough.
  • Testing like your users: in many markets, a large share of users are still on 4G most of the time.
  • Wide coverage: outside cities, 4G is often the only stable signal. The ITU puts 4G coverage at 93% of the world's population in 2025, against 55% for 5G.

That gap is closing: Ericsson counted 3.1 billion 5G subscriptions in the first quarter of 2026, and 5G carried 48% of mobile data traffic by the end of 2025.

When is 5G worth asking for?

  • Video ad verification or streaming QA, where throughput matters.
  • Large transfers through one port, since data on a dedicated port is unlimited.
  • Many parallel browser sessions on the same modem.
  • Latency-sensitive tests on carriers with 5G standalone, such as T-Mobile in the US or Free Mobile in France.

What is 5G NSA and SA, and does it matter for a proxy?

Non-standalone 5G (NSA) adds 5G radio to a 4G core and mainly increases speed. Standalone 5G (SA) uses a 5G core and can lower latency. For a proxy, both give a carrier IP; SA can trim a few milliseconds, which matters less than the distance to the gateway and the target. The glossary defines both.

How do I get a 5G port at CellMast?

Choose a country and a carrier with 5G; the port uses 5G when its modem is in 5G coverage, and 4G otherwise. 4G LTE or 5G, depending on the carrier's coverage where the modem sits. The client area shows the network type. The price is the same either way: $45 for 30 days in the US, $72.75 in the UK, as of October 2026.

4G vs 5G: questions

Can websites tell if my proxy is on 4G or 5G?

Not from the IP address. 4G and 5G connections on the same carrier use the same address pools. A site can only infer something from measured speed or latency, which depend on many other factors.

Is 5G more expensive than 4G for proxies?

Some providers charge more for 5G ports. CellMast does not: a port costs the same on either network, from $2.63/day by country zone, with unlimited data.

Will a 5G port fall back to 4G?

Yes, when the modem loses 5G coverage or the carrier steers traffic to 4G. The port keeps working on LTE and keeps the same kind of carrier IP. The client area shows the current network type.

Which is better for social media management, 4G or 5G?

Either. Account work needs a stable carrier IP in the right country, not high speed. A 4G LTE port does the job; take 5G only if you also upload a lot of video from the same port. See mobile proxies for agencies.
