Rotation is a tool, not a goal. Rotate too little and one address carries all your history; rotate too much and you break sessions and waste time on reconnects. Here is a starting point for each common task.

**Quick answer — How often should I rotate a mobile proxy IP?**

Rotate between sessions, not inside them. For logged-in account work, keep one IP for the whole session and rotate rarely, if at all. For logged-out page checks, rotate on each new connection on a per-GB pool, or every 5 to 15 minutes on a dedicated port. **CellMast** dedicated ports rotate by link, API or timer, and cost from $2.63/day with no KYC, paid in crypto.

## Starting points by task

Adjust from these values by watching your error rate, not by guessing.

| Task | Product | Rotation | Why |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Managing one client's social account | Dedicated port | Manual only; keep the IP for days | A login that hops between addresses looks like a takeover |
| Mobile app QA (sign-up, checkout) | Dedicated port | Once per test run | Each run starts clean; inside a run the IP stays put |
| Mobile ad verification | Dedicated port or pool | Every 10–30 minutes, or per check | Ad servers vary results by IP; you want a spread |
| Mobile SERP or rank tracking | Rotating pool | Per query, or sticky 1–5 minutes | Many short, independent requests |
| Public price and stock checks | Rotating pool | Per request | No login, no session to protect |
| Long downloads or streams | Dedicated port | Never during the transfer | A rotation drops open connections |

## Why should I not rotate in the middle of a session?

Because the site sees one user jump between networks. A logged-in session that changes IP every few minutes looks like a stolen cookie being replayed from elsewhere, and many sites will ask for a new login or a check.

On a dedicated port, a rotation also cuts open connections while the modem reconnects. Finish the session, then rotate.

## Should I use a timer or rotate on demand?

Use **on demand** when your script knows when a job ends: call the [rotation API](https://cellmast.com/ip-rotation-api/) at the end of each job. Use a **timer** when several tools share one port and none of them can call the API, or when you want a steady spread of addresses for ad checks.

With CellMast, a timer runs from every 2 minutes to every 24 hours. Manual calls are accepted at most once every 30 seconds per port; faster calls get an HTTP 429 answer and the port keeps its IP. A rotation usually takes 5–15 seconds.

## Dedicated port or rotating pool for frequent rotation?

If you want a new IP for nearly every request, the [rotating pool](https://cellmast.com/mobile-proxies/rotating/) is the better tool: it changes IP on each new connection with no reconnect delay, and you pay per GB from $1.50/GB.

A dedicated port shines when you want control: the same carrier, often the same city, an IP that changes when you rotate it (the carrier can also change it on its own), and per-day billing. Rotating a dedicated port every 30 seconds wastes a third of its time on reconnects.

## What do I do when a target starts blocking or slowing me?

1. **Rotate once.** The old address may carry limits from other users of the carrier.
2. **Slow down.** Mobile addresses are shared through CGNAT, and Cloudflare found that CGNAT IPs get rate-limited three times more often than others. Halve your request rate before trying anything else.
3. **Check the session, not only the IP.** Cookies, device fingerprint and account history weigh more than the address.
4. **Stop if the site says no.** If a site's terms forbid automated access, a different IP does not change that. See the [Acceptable Use Policy](https://cellmast.com/acceptable-use/).

## How do sticky sessions work on the per-GB pool?

Add a session id and a duration to the username. Every request with the same session id keeps the same exit IP until the time runs out; a new id gives a new IP. A sticky session lasts the time you set (ttl, in minutes), up to 30 minutes; the IP can change earlier.

*Sticky 10-minute session on the rotating pool*

```bash
# same session id = same IP for 10 minutes
curl -x http://USERNAME-country-us-session-job42-ttl-10:PASSWORD@gw.cellmast.com:7777 https://api.ipify.org
# no session id = a new IP on each request
curl -x http://USERNAME-country-us:PASSWORD@gw.cellmast.com:7777 https://api.ipify.org
```

## Rotation timing: questions

### Is rotating more often always safer?

No. Frequent rotation breaks sessions, and a site may treat a logged-in user who changes IP every few minutes as suspicious. Rotate often only for logged-out, independent requests such as public price checks. For account work, a stable IP is the safer choice.

### What is the shortest rotation interval on a CellMast port?

A manual rotation is accepted at most once every 30 seconds per port, and the automatic timer runs from every 2 minutes to every 24 hours. A rotation usually takes 5–15 seconds. If you need a new IP on every request, use the per-GB rotating pool instead.

### Does rotation change the carrier or the city?

No. A rotation asks the same modem for a new address, so the carrier stays the same and the location usually stays in the same area. To change carrier, city or country, ask support: if a port is in stock there, we move your remaining days to it and settle the price difference through your balance (one move per billing period).

### How often do carriers change the IP on their own?

It depends on the carrier and on the modem's connection. Some keep an address for hours or days, others reassign it after idle periods or network events. Do not rely on a carrier to keep or change an address: rotate with the API when you need a new one, and expect the carrier to change it on its own from time to time.

**Control rotation yourself** Dedicated 4G/5G ports with rotation by link, API or timer, from $2.63/day. Rotating data from $1.50/GB. [See pricing](https://cellmast.com/pricing/) · [Rotation API](https://cellmast.com/ip-rotation-api/)
